Madrid, 3rd December 2024.- The Abertis Foundation celebrated its 25th anniversary with a commemorative event at the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid, which was presided over by His Majesty King Felipe VI and attended by the Minister for Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, Elma Saiz; the president of the Abertis Foundation, Elena Salgado; the president of Abertis, Juan Santamaría; the CEO of Abertis, José Aljaro; the president of ACS, Florentino Pérez; the vice-president of Mundys, Alessandro Benetton; as well as the Foundation’s trustees Miquel Roca, José Mayor Oreja and Fabio Corsico. Also in attendance were personalities from civil society who have formed part of the Abertis Foundation throughout its 25-year history.
"The vocation to serve, promoting innovation, knowledge transfer and social progress have been the most significant values that have characterised the Abertis Foundation’s work over the years. Our commitment is to maintain this commitment in order to move towards a model of society and coexistence that is more inclusive, more sustainable and fairer for everyone", said the president of the Abertis Foundation, Elena Salgado, who also took part in the event to celebrate this anniversary.
"Abertis brings valuable experience to its foundation. After more than 60 years of activity, it contributes invaluable knowledge that allows the Abertis Foundation to implement projects that facilitate the transition towards more efficient and sustainable mobility," said Abertis’ president Juan Santamaría during his speech. "We believe in a future in which entities such as the Abertis Foundation will continue to play an important role in society, helping to improve people’s quality of life.
The event, at which Judit Mascó served as master of ceremonies, celebrated the Abertis Foundation’s impact by taking a look at the key initiatives and alliances that it has launched and built since its creation in 1999.
The Abertis Foundation has contributed to the sustainable development of the regions where Abertis operates, in areas such as road safety, the environment, social action and culture, through projects in more than 10 countries. Over the years, the Foundation has promoted strategic alliances around the world, with partners such as UNICEF and UNESCO, with special impact in countries such as Spain, Brazil, India, Mexico, Chile, Italy and France, to name but a few. In the education field, the Abertis Foundation has granted scholarships to 700-plus students from around the world, and 200-plus researchers have gained recognition through its Abertis Chairs International Network. Its close cooperation with the administration and cultural entities such as the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) has enabled the Abertis Foundation to arrange exhibitions of some of Spain’s leading artists, such as Joan Miró, Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dalí, Diego Velázquez and Antoni Gaudí, in countries such as France, Italy, the United States, Argentina, India, Puerto Rico, Brazil and Chile.
