The Group promotes the use of electric vehicles on its roads thanks to the implementation of charging points throughout the various concessions that the company has in Spain.
13 December 2022 - Abertis today announced its plan to roll out electric vehicle charging points in the various concessions it manages in Spain through its subsidiary Autopistas (Avasa, Aucat, Castellana, Aulesa and Tunnels). In total, the 29 service areas distributed along more than 600 kilometres of roads in various regions in the country will initially have 76 new electric charging points. This initiative will contribute to the development of electric mobility for long-distance travel in Spain and will enable electric vehicles to be used with guaranteed comfort and safety on the Abertis Group’s motorways.
The roll-out plan, which will start this December, foresees the initial installation of 76 new points, 95% of which will be ultra-fast charging points, which will enable full recharging in less than 30 minutes. To carry out this deployment, the Abertis Group has selected four charging operators that are experts in the sector: Repsol, Cepsa, BP and IONITY.
Boosting electric mobility
The promotion of electric mobility is one of the pillars on which the Group’s sustainability strategy is based, in order to guarantee the best service and reduce the environmental footprint of motorway users. The installation of these charging points on roads managed by the Group favours the penetration of electric vehicles, a key element in reducing carbon emissions associated with customer use.
Another initiative underway to reduce the company’s carbon footprint is the transition of the fleet used on the roads to electric vehicles. This is already being implemented in countries such as Spain, Chile and the United States.
José Aljaro, CEO of the Abertis Group, stated that “the extension of charging points along the roads we manage favours the growth of the electric vehicle market, which considerably reduces road pollution and greenhouse gas emissions, and favours the energy transition towards a cleaner and more sustainable mobility model that we are promoting in each of the countries in which we are present”.
