•The Group completes its first ESG Plan (2022-2024), making steady progress in its 2022-2030 sustainability strategy.

•In the last year it reported an 8.9% reduction in GHG emissions (scope 1 and 2), speeding up its decarbonisation plan.

•Another cornerstone of Abertis' sustainability strategy is using green energy: in 2024, 72.8% of the direct energy it consumed came from renewable sources, while in countries such as Spain, France, Italy, Brazil and Chile it has reached 100% green consumption.

•Over the last year, the company has recovered almost 86% of its generated waste and the target for the next two years is to keep the figure above 80%.

•Abertis also remains firmly committed to using recycled materials in its infrastructure pavements: in France, recycled asphalt (RAP) usage has already reached 43%, Italy uses 30% in the total of its asphalt mixes, and Chile and Brazil are increasingly building it into their operations.

Barcelona, 8 July 2025.- Abertis, the world's leading infrastructure and mobility management group, is further bolstering its commitment to sustainability by successfully completing its first 2022-2024 ESG Plan, conceived as the initial roadmap for its 2022-2030 Sustainability Strategy. This plan has been essential in consolidating the integration of environmental, social and governance criteria throughout the organisation and in launching transforming projects in line with the Sustainable Development Goals.
The company is speeding up its decarbonisation strategy and in the last five years has cut its Scope 1 and 2 emissions by more than 25%, a percentage that it plans to double by 2030 to 50%; and it is aiming to reduce its Scope 3 emissions by 22% in the next 5 years. Furthermore, in global GHG emissions terms, the reduction with respect to 2023 has been 8.9%.
The Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi), an international benchmark organisation that accredits its alignment with international scientific standards for the fight against climate change, externally validated the Abertis Group's decarbonisation targets.
The 2022-2024 ESG Plan was Abertis' first operational instrument for rolling out its 2022-2030 Sustainability Strategy. During this three-year period, the Group has reached all of its environmental, social and governance objectives: it has 776 electric recharging points, renewable sources now account for 72.8% of its electricity consumption, and it has commissioned 62 solar plants in eight business units.
What's more, it has managed to reduce its purchases and services-related scope 3 emissions and significantly boosted the use of recycled materials to 16%.

 
New 2025-2027 ESG Plan: continuity with renewed ambition
After closing the first cycle of its ESG strategy, Abertis is now embarking on the new 2025-2027 plan, which will continue with the achievements obtained top date and will step up key lines of action such as energy efficiency, sustainable innovation and digitalisation. This new plan features more demanding objectives and new cross-cutting projects that reinforce the company's sustainability ambition.
Firmly committed to green energy and the circular economy
In 2024, renewable sources accounted for 72.8% of the direct energy consumed by the Group, compared to 67.6% the previous year. In countries such as Spain, France, Italy, Brazil and Chile, green energy consumption has already reached 100%.

Achieving this essentially entails using key tools: digitalisation, innovation and renewable energies" said Abertis' Director of Institutional Relations, Communication and Sustainability, Georgina Flamme. "Moving forward in using green energy is one of our main goals and we are working to ensure that in the coming years 100% of our electricity consumption will come from clean energy".
The group also recycles and recovers around 86% of the waste generated globally, thereby exceeding the 50% target set and with the challenge of maintaining it above 80% by 2027, thanks to the improved sorting and recycling processes derived from motorway management, thus boosting the circular economy. 

More sustainable infrastructures with recycled materials
Abertis overhauled its General Infrastructure Management Policy in 2024 to promote the sustainable development of its activities and the maintenance of its infrastructures through the circular economy and innovation. This year, 11% of the materials used in pavements were of recycled origin.
The best results came in France, where the use of recycled asphalt (RAP) has reached 43%, while in Italy it remains close to 30%. In Chile, the average is around 9%, and in Brazil, tests are being carried out to increase the use of RAP in future resurfacing projects.

Long-term commitment
With its sights set on 2030, Abertis is set to keep on promoting actions aligned with its sustainability strategy, working towards an increasingly efficient, decarbonised infrastructure that is committed to people and the environment.
